Hook

The opening line of a post whose single job is to make the reader keep reading.

What it means

A hook is the first thing a reader sees - the opening line of a post or the first slide of a carousel. Its only job is to buy the next second of attention. Everything downstream depends on it, because a reader who scrolls past never sees the rest.

Strong hooks create a small open loop: a surprising claim, a specific number, a tension the reader wants resolved. Weak hooks summarize or throat-clear.

Why it matters

On a fast feed, the hook is most of the game. A brilliant post with a flat hook underperforms a mediocre post with a sharp one, because the second one actually gets read.
