Copywriting

Writing aimed at driving a specific reader action through clarity and persuasion.

What it means

Copywriting is writing with a job: get the reader to do one thing. It leans on clarity over cleverness, specificity over vagueness, and the reader's problem over the writer's ego. Every line earns its place by moving toward the action.

It's distinct from content writing, which aims to inform or entertain. Copy aims to convert, though the best content borrows copywriting's discipline about hooks and clarity.

Why it matters

The gap between a post that's read and one that's acted on is usually copywriting. Sharpening the hook, the specificity and the ask is often what turns attention into a follow, a signup or a sale.
