How to Write a Scroll-Stopping Hook

The opening line is most of the game. Write ones that earn the read.

Open a loop, don't summarize

A summary tells the reader they already know enough to scroll. A loop tells them the payoff is a few seconds away. "Here's how I grew my audience" summarizes. "I almost deleted the post that got me 40,000 followers" opens a loop.

Get specific fast

Specificity is credibility. A precise number, a named moment, an unexpected detail - these signal a real story and stop the thumb. Vague hooks read as generic, and generic reads as skippable.

Write ten, keep one

Hooks are cheap to draft and expensive to get wrong, so never ship the first one. Write ten variations of the opening line, then pick the one that would stop you. This is a place where fast drafting in your voice pays off - you can generate the options without losing the hours.

Create content in your voice - at scale

SelfScale learns how you write from your own posts, so every draft sounds like you, not a generic chatbot.
