Prompt Engineering
Crafting the instructions given to an AI model to steer the quality of its output.
What it means
Prompt engineering is the practice of writing instructions that steer an AI toward the output you want - being specific, giving context, showing examples, setting constraints. Better prompts genuinely produce better results.
It has real limits for voice, though. No matter how carefully worded, a prompt describing your tone still asks the model to imitate a label rather than draw on how you actually write.
Why it matters
For voice specifically, grounding a model in your real posts does more than any prompt can. A description of your style produces an average of that description; your actual writing produces you. That's why voice-grounded systems beat prompt-only approaches for content that has to sound like a person.
