How to Use AI for Content Ideation Without Losing Your Angle
Use AI to break blocks, but keep your own angle on every idea.
Where AI helps with ideation
AI is genuinely useful for two ideation jobs: starting a list when you're staring at nothing, and generating angles on an idea you already have. Ask a model to give you ten different takes on one topic you care about, and several of those angles will be wrong or obvious - but one or two might spark the version only you could write.
The key is treating the AI output as raw material for your thinking, not as the finished brief. Take the angle that connects to something you actually know and push it further in your own direction.
The angle is yours, not the model's
A model generates the central tendency - the angle that the widest audience would probably respond to. But the posts that build real loyalty are often the ones that take an unconventional position or a less-obvious angle. Those come from your actual experience and opinions, not from what's most statistically likely to be true.
Use AI to see the common angles so you can consciously choose a different one. Knowing what everyone else will say is the starting point for saying something that only you would.
Stay inside your pillars
Ideation tools can pull you in every direction because they're not aware of your content strategy. Before you take an AI-generated idea and run with it, check it against your pillars: is this actually a topic you own, or does it just seem interesting in the moment? A post that doesn't belong in your repertoire adds noise more than signal, even if it performs on a single day.
